Make a more informed choice
To the editor,
A very painless and effective way to exercise your right to vote is by requesting an absentee ballot for the March 3 election. We have five candidates seeking three available seats for City Council. Most absentee ballots are from folks who will be out of town on that date. It is also true that a growing number of people who will be on Sanibel on that date are requesting the absentee ballot as they find it more convenient and avoids driving to the polling place and stand on line.
Either scenario is totally appropriate and it raises the percentage of folks who will vote in this very important Sanibel election. There is much material on the backgrounds of the five candidates seeking these seats. They spell out their campaign platforms via the newspapers and in mailings from the candidates.
Another important source on the five is from Letters to the Editor from your fellow citizens. They can be found each week in the Island Reporter. Do a little homework so that you can make a more informed choice. I understand some of the candidates have a web site with much information on their respective platforms.
The simple procedure is to make a one minute phone call to the Lee County Elections at 239-533-8683 and they will promptly mail your ballot to you and for you to make your selections and send it back to them.
Please exercise your right to vote whether it be going to the polling place on March 3 or using the absentee ballot approach. Make your vote count!
