Vote for Berger
To the editor,
Dr. David Berger was born in Newark, N.J. So was I. We were raised in the same neighborhood and went to the same high school. I know him pretty well. Many of you may know him and not even know that you know him.
He’s the doctor that you may have consulted with at the V.A. Hospital or outpatient clinic in Fort Myers for that spot on your skin or lump on your body. David is an oncological surgeon who devotes two days a week to seeing and treating our war veterans. David is that big guy you may have seen driving around the island in his ’91 red convertible Saab with the sun glistening off his shiny bald head.
David is a long-time resident of Sanibel. Since retiring, he has not renewed his medical licenses in California, New York and Illinois but he keeps his license in Florida active, which allows him to provide his services to our war veterans.
For the past eight years, I have been urging David to run for City Council. Apparently, he finally has decided to listen to an old friend. How fortunate we all are. Here on Sanibel recently, we have had another medical doctor on the council – Dr. Steve Brown – who helped cure the city of its financial ills. I feel certain that David will do the same.
In case you are one of those that thinks that a medical career is not a good preamble to the City Council, I would like to point out that David also holds a Masters Degree in Business Administration (MBA) Cum Laude from Lake Forest Graduate School of Management.
David is deeply concerned with growth on the island and our budget. He has served honorably and wisely on the Sanibel Planning Commission during 2007 and 2008 and is active in many of our civic organizations.
I urge that you make it a point to chat with David and get to know him before Election Day, on March 3.
