Significant improvement

1 min read

To the editor,

On Dec. 8, the sharp drop-off to the shoulder along San-Cap Road on the Gulf side before Blind Pass was filled and paved. Although this is not a bike path or “safety shoulder” as on Captiva Drive, it is a significant improvement for pedestrians and bikers who travel between the end of the Sanibel bike path and Blind Pass bridge. We can now step off the road to avoid oncoming traffic without the previous trip hazard. Sometime in the future, can we hope for a proper multi-use path or safety shoulder?

I expect that when the pass is re-opened, pedestrian and bike traffic will increase as the bridge regains its status as a hot spot for fishing.

Thank you to Sanibel Public Works for listening.
