Desire for harmony
To the editor,
Objectors to the Mimms’ “big house” have prevailed. The Mimms, as announced last week, have canceled plans to build. Their lot is for sale. The “Don’t build a bigger house than mine” crowd finally won out.
Many would probably say “Why now” after such a long struggle? Maybe it’s because of the reception of some of the neighbors and other island do-gooders? However, to many of us, it’s just another result of the proposed “harmony” that our Planning Commission have imposed on us.
Unfortunately, Sanibel property owners haven’t seen anything yet. Wait until you see what they have planned for us in January. Hint: don’t worry if our own Planing Commission members cannot decide if your proposed structure is in harmony with your neighbors, they will employ an off-island expert.
Oh, by the way, not many of us knew that under our existing Sec. 86-43 Ordinance, adjoining neighbors may presently object to their new neighbors’ plans for development regardless of its size. This good news was restated at a recent Planning Commission meeting. Isn’t it great we don’t need an amendment to Sec. 86-43 to have the right to critique a neighbor’s proposed development. It’s all part of our desire for harmony.
Please, everyone, go to the Planning Commission office and get a copy of what they have in store for us.
Don’t amend Sec. 86-43 — repeal it.
