Joan Leffel

Joan Leffel’s life moved peacefully to its close in the presence of family on March 12, in Fort Myers, Florida. Mrs. Leffel, 90, had been a long time resident of Corning, New York and Sanibel, Florida. She was born and raised in Evanston, Illinois, graduated from Evanston Township High School and the University of Wisconsin at Madison.
Joan was preceded in death by her father, John F. Eakins; her mother, Maude Louise Carson Eakins; her sister, Maude Eakins Oetking; her first husband, Philip C. Leffel Jr. and her second husband, Harry Marts. She is survived by her children: Catharine Birch (Alan) of Louisville, Kentucky; Philip Leffel (Liz) of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina; John Leffel (Whit) of Cohasset, Massachusetts; Martha Yules (Sy) of South Dartmouth, Massachusetts; and Thomas Leffel (Mary) of Wilton, Connecticut; twelve grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A private family interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation or the Corning Public Library would be appreciated.
