Jane F. Devaney
Jane F. Devaney (ne Ghersan) was born on April 2, 1925, in Astoria, New York, to John Ghersan and Jane Harabalya.
She married John J. Devaney of the Bronx, New York, on April 12,1947. They lived in Yonkers, New York, for many years before retiring to Sanibel Island, Florida, in 1987.
She was an avid golfer and reader and very active in the parish of St. Isabel Catholic Church on Sanibel Island, where she served as a lector and Eucharistic minister and for whom she volunteered in the community, bringing communion to the sick and working with impoverished communities in the Fort Myers area. She also volunteered at FISH of Sanibel-Captiva.
She is preceded in death by her husband and is survived by her two sons Christopher J. Devaney (Donna) of Ridgefield, Connecticut, and Stephen A. Devaney (Patricia) of Irvington, New York; and her daughter M.J. Devaney (Charles Palermo) of Williamsburg, Virginia; along with six grandchildren: John P. Devaney, Michael C. Devaney (Jessica), Elizabeth N. Devaney, Hannah G. Devaney, Charles J. Palermo Jr. and Bridget J. Palermo.
She is also survived by her cousins Martha Rooney and Kathie Rooney of Las Vegas, Nevada.
A funeral mass will be celebrated May 24 at 11 a.m. at St. Isabel Catholic Church on Sanibel Island. A luncheon will follow in the parish hall.
