Bonny Carr Bradley
Bonny Carr Bradley passed away on Saturday, March 15 at 7 p.m. at home on Sanibel Island, Fla.
She was born Sept. 28, 1957 in Bloomington, Ill., to Jack C. Carr and Alberta J. Miller Carr. She graduated from Normal Community High School in 1975. She attended Illinois State University for 2.5 years.
Bonny took many trips with her family while growing up. She first visited Sanibel Island in 1960 when she was 3. In 1978 she moved to Sanibel — her favorite spot in the world. She started her own landscape and design business, “Bonny’s Blooming Gardens,” and met and fell in love with Marvin, (Rookie), Bradley who also ran his own business, “Rookie’s Lawncare.”
Bonny and Rookie were married on Dec. 30, 2000 on Sanibel. They merged their business efforts as well. Together they did their part to keep Sanibel beautiful by designing, planting, and maintaining gorgeous properties all over the island. When they got done with a property, it looked like it belonged on “homes of the stars.” Bonny loved animals, nature, her job, her home island of Sanibel, and her husband.
Bonny is survived by her husband, Marvin, (Rookie), Bradley. On her side she is survived by a sister, Karen Carr (Ron) Wiggins; two nephews, Jake and Nate Wiggins; three aunts, two uncles, and numerous cousins. On the Rookie side, Bonny is survived by Rookie’s six children: Chad, Michael, Marnekia, April, Marvin Jr., and Marvell; Rookie’s sisters: Iona (Prince) Anderson, Alma Armstrong, Alvera (Mike) Curry, Muriel Rogers, Sadie B. Jones, and Shirley Bradley; Rookie’s brothers: William (Jane Ann) Carter, Benjamin Rogers, Moses Bradley, Albert Bradley, Herbert Bradley, and Bennie (Barbara) Sloan; and Calvin Burney.
Bonny’s parents and Rookie’s parents, Mary Lee Rogers and Arvell Bradley, preceded her in death. Bonny wished to be cremated and have her ashes spread at sea with the dolphins. There will be a memorial service in her honor on Saturday, April 26, 2014 at 11 a.m. at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church on Sanibel Island, Fla.
