R. Denison Stewart

R. Denison Stewart, M.D., of Aurora, Ill., husband of the late Judith (White) Stewart, died at his home at the age of 72 on Feb. 7, 2014. Born in Sterling, Ill., on Dec. 25, 1941 to the late Donald B. and Elinore (nee: Denison) Stewart, he was an orthopedic surgeon at UH Geauga Medical Center.

Stewart graduated from Knox College in Illinois and then graduated from Stanford University School of Medicine. He did his orthopedic residency at the Cleveland Clinic, and then joined the U.S. Army as a Major during the Vietnam War. Upon returning from the Army, Dr. Stewart returned to Cleveland and joined his orthopedic practice in Chardon. He served the Geauga County Community for more than 30 years.

He is survived by his children, Matthew Ian Stewart, Donald Walter (Celeste) Stewart and Sarah Lynn (Michael McIntyre) Stewart, all of Denver, Colo., and Meredith Stewart (Seth) Reimer of Shaker Hts.; his former wife and the mother of his children, Pamela (nee: Gorske) DeLong of Oberlin; and grandchildren Lillian, Thayer and Nolan Sindelar, Lauren and Taylor Stewart and Ethan, Wyatt and Quinn Reimer. He has brothers Donald G. (Marianthe) Stewart of Sarasota, Fla., and Colin (Sharon) Stewart of Sparta, N.J. Stewart was predeceased by his daughter, Anna Denise.

The family will host a gathering at The Club at Walden, 585 Country Club Lane, Aurora, 44202, 330-995-3111, on Sunday, Feb. 23 from 2-5 p.m. Donations are requested to J.N.
