Charles John Hoover
Charles John Hoover, 83, of Fort Myers, Fla. and Noblesville, Ind., died on January 25, 2014. He was married to Nancy Hoover for 10 years. She survives. Previously, he was married to Carol Hoover for 49 years who is deceased.
Hoover was born on April 16, 1930 in Milwaukee, Wis., and spent his youth in Terre Haute, Ind. He was a 1951 graduate of Purdue University majoring in Chemical Engineering and a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity and the Gimlet organization.
He served in the Army at the Dugway Proving Grounds in Utah. After being honorably discharged in 1954, he began working at Dupont Chemical Company in Charleston, W.Va. He then moved to Indiana and worked for 31 years with Eli Lilly and Company, mostly in West Lafayette. He retired in 1988.
He was involved with Habitat for Humanity, Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation, Rotary, and St. Michael’s Episcopal Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, John Hoover (Donna) and Tom Hoover (Sally); two stepsons, Clyde Brant (Jennifer) and Jeff Sommer; six grandchildren, Laura Santiago (Omar), Sarah Hartmann (Michael), Abby Hoover, Hilary Hoover, Grant Hoover, Griffin Hoover; five step grandchildren, Constance Sommer, Nicholas Sommer, Colin Brant, Kate Brant, Alexander Brant; and two step great grandchildren, Kennya Santiago, Karen Santiago.
A memorial service and reception will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Feb. 15 at Sanibel Community Church on Sanibel Island, Fla.
