Diane Price Forney

Diane Price Forney, 78, of Sanibel Island, died

peacefully on April 26, 2013, at the Gulf Coast

Medical Center. Diane was a loving wife, mother and

grandmother who touched the lives of so many friends

and family.

Forney was born in Chicago, Ill., and was the

daughter of an Army officer. She earned her RN from

the Cook County School of Nursing in 1955 and

began her nursing career as an ER nurse at the Cook

County Hospital.

She married Les Forney, an Army officer, in 1958

and lived the nomadic life of an Army wife, moving

more than 20 times during his 30-year Army career.

Diane and Les began their married life in Taiwan

where both of their sons were born, followed by tours

all around the United States and a second tour in

Taiwan. At the end of Les’ Army career, they settled

in Miami Shores, Fla., where Diane was a head nurse

at a Jackson Memorial Hospital psychiatric ward.

In her spare time, Diane became an accomplished

needlework artist and frequently traveled around the

country to needlework classes and seminars. She created

many award winning works of needle art and her

work and passion inspired a new generation of needle

artists.

After years of annual vacations to Sanibel, she and

Les moved to the island permanently in 2003. Diane

loved living on Sanibel. She was an avid shell collector

and beachcomber and spent many happy days on

the Sanibel beaches with her children and grandchildren.

She was a member of the Sanibel Captiva chapter

of Zonta.

She is survived by her husband Les, her sons Dan

and John, daughters-in-law Deborah and Amy, and

seven grandchildren, Mariah, Richard, Peter, Jacob,

Sophia, William, and Emily.

Diane will be laid to rest at the Sarasota National

Cemetery at 1 p.m. on Monday, May 20. In lieu of

flowers, donations should be made to the Salvation

Army, 10291 McGregor Blvd, Ft. Myers, FL 33919.
