Ilona Almeida

Ilona Almeida, 55, of Fort Myers passed away on Monday, Sept. 26, 2011 after a hard-fought battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her family.
She was born in Oberhausen, Germany on Aug. 17, 1956. She came to the United States in 1977 after marrying the love of her life and soulmate, Paul Almeida. She moved to Florida with her family in 1992. She recently retired from her job at the Valhalla after 18 incredible years.
Ilona was an unbelievably special and compassionate person. She had a special love for animals, friends, NASCAR, the beach and her family. Ilona was the most loyal and hospitable friend, daughter, mother, and grandmother anyone could ever ask for. She loved this country and all the freedom’s it afforded her. Ilona enjoyed life to the fullest and even in her illness, did not want to miss a minute.
She is survived by her daughters, Angelique Almeida Schlosser and Nicole Almeida Reed; son-in-laws, Drew Schlosser and Robert Reed; her grandchildren Andrew and Hudson Schlosser; mother, Helga Kresse; dogs, Kobi and Koki, and birds, Chico and Pepo. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Almeida.
Funeral services were held in Fort Myers on Oct. 1. Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the United Services Organization, P.O. Box 96332, Washington, D.C. 20090 or to the Lee County Humane Society, 5600 Banner Drive, Fort Myers, FL 33912.
