Janice L. Spohn passed away on June 13, 2011 at the age of 78. Janice was born in Albuquerque, N.M. on May 24, 1933 to Emmett and Dorothy Kelly (Sutherland). She was the beloved wife of Dwane Spohn for 56 years.

Janice graduated from Topeka High School in 1951. She attended Washburn University where she studied business administration. She was an active member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority.

Janice devoted her life to her marriage and to raising her three children. She was a wonderful wife and outstanding parent and grandparent. Her children and grandchildren feel blessed to have had her gentle guidance and love through out their lives. She was also extremely close to both of her daughters in law and her son in law.

Her circle of friends was an extremely important part of Janice’s life. She lived in many different places over the course of her life. In each, she made deep and lasting friendships that she nurtured long after leaving an area. Her warm, welcoming and fun-loving spirit will be dearly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Janice was a spiritual person who was actively involved in the church. Most recently, she attended the Sanibel Community Church where she was a member for the past 16 years. Through the church, she volunteered for several local missions including the Salvation Army and the Fort Myers soup kitchen.

Janice is survived by her husband, Dwane; her children Greg and Jeff Spohn and Pam Murphy and their respective spouses, NorRae and Rhoda Spohn and Kevin Murphy; and seven grandchildren – Michael, David, Meredith and Brian Spohn and Michelle, Daniel and Christopher Murphy.

A memorial service will be held at the Sanibel Community Church on Saturday, July 9, 2011 at 10 a.m. A lunch will be held immediately after the service in the church Fellowship Hall. All are welcome.
