Billie Elder
Billie Boatright Elder, 91, of Charlotte, N.C., died peacefully on Oct. 16, 2010 with family by her side. She was 91. She is survived by sons, Bill, Michael, daughter-in-law Pat and granddaughter Sarah.
A resident of Sanibel Island from 1976 to 2000, Billie was very active in the Sanibel-Captiva Art League, Hospice and the Sanibel Community Church. Billie was an accomplished painter and had a lifelong interest in theatre, acting and directing many community productions. She loved to swim and was swimming regularly up until a few months before her death.
Born Dec. 9, 1918, in Marshall, Mo., Billie grew up in Kansas City, Mo. and gratuated from Southwestern High. She received a BA degree from the University of Missouri. She married Harmon Lynn Elder of Jonesboro, Arkansas and they resided in Kansas City until moving to Bethesda, Md. in 1954 and then to Sanibel in 1976. Three years after her husband died, she moved to Charlotte to be close to her family.
