Lois Jane Greenberg
Lois J. Greenburg of Sanibel passed away on July 16, 2009 following a battle with breast cancer. She was 73.
The daughter of the late David and Fannie Greenberg, Lois was born on Oct. 9, 1935 in Cleveland, Ohio and retired to Sanibel following a retail career with Macy’s department store in Las Vegas, Nevada.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Joel Friedman. She is survived by two daughters – Jill Germain and her husband, Mark, of Tampa, Jodi Benke and her husband, Jamie, of Joshua, Texas; and a son – Jeffrey Friedman and his wife, Lisa, of Sanibel. Lois is also survived by a loving family that includes a sister, Norma Cooper, of Las Vegas, six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
An avid volunteer, Lois devoted much of her time volunteering at the J.N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge on Sanibel as well as the Health Park Birthing Center in Fort Myers. She was a member of the Bat Yam Temple of the Islands and will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
A service was held on July 20 at the Sanibel Congregational Church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a breast cancer-related charity of choice or to Hope Hospice of Fort Myers. The family wishes to thank Carol Bradshaw and the entire hospice team.
