Frank Vaughn

Franklin Howard Vaughn, 79, passed away on March 8, 2009 at Jersey Shore Manor Care.

He was born on April 25, 1929 in Eldred, Pa., the son of Gardner and Anna Rohrman Vaughn. Frank was the husband of the former Dorothy Zechman Millward, with whom he shared 43 years of marriage.

He graduated in 1947 from Otto High School and in 1952 he graduated from Lock Haven State College.

Frank taught English at Wellsboro High School for six years while pursuing a Masters degree by studying summers at Middlebury College. His subsequent studies for a doctoral degree at Brown University were interrupted when he accepted a position teaching English at Mansfield State College in 1962.

In 1964, he joined the English faculty of LHSC and in 1965, he married Dorothy Millward, who joined him as a faculty member of LHSC. They taught there and retired together in 1991 to live on Sanibel Island until 2006. Then, they returned to Pennsylvania where they reestablished permanent residence.

Surviving, in addition to his beloved wife are his stepson, Donald R. Millward, two granddaughters, Laurie Millward and Katie Ortiz, and one cousin, Betty Andersen.

In accordance with Frank’s wishes, there will be no visitation or memorial service. The family suggests memorial gifts be sent to the Frank and Dorothy Vaughn English Scholarship, LHU Foundation, c/o Lock Haven University, Lock Haven, PA 17745.
