Lois “Loie” Ford Kiddoo
Lois “Loie” Ford Kiddoo passed away at the Hilton Head Hospital on Jan. 20, 2009 after a period of declining health. She was the daughter of Raymond E. Ford and Daisie Shootman Ford and the wife of Gordon Kiddoo.
Born in San Francisco and a resident of southern California until her marriage in 1949, she was a graduate of South Pasadena High School and attended the University of Southern California.
After her marriage she lived, as her husband changed jobs or was transferred, in: Stamford, Ct.: Amarillo, Texas; Wellesley and Nantucket, Mass.; Allentown and Philadelphia, Pa.: Cleveland, Ohio; Sanibel and Brevard, N.C. At the time of her death, she was a resident of Hilton Head Island, S.C.
In addition to her duties as mother and homemaker, she was a volunteer in charitable activities throughout her life. With a flair for decorating, she handpainted furniture did exquisite needlepoint on furniture seats and cushions and on wall hangings. She was a knitter throughout her lifetime, making over 50 sweaters for her husband and others in her family, and through the Episcopal Church, she knitted over 50 hat and scarf sets for merchant seamen.
Her gardens were always a thing of beauty. She loved designing gardens and enjoyed planting, caring for, picking and arranging flowers throughout her life.
In addition to her husband, Gordon, she is survived by three children: Nancy MacBarron, San Dimas, Ca., Stephen Kiddoo, Manhattan Beach, Ca. and Kevin Kiddoo, New York City, N.Y. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Services will be private.
