Sunday’s bike component of Tour de Cape postponed due to weather
With the forecast calling for rain and strong wind this Sunday, the Bike Tour portion of the 2019 Tour De Cape event has been moved to Saturday, Jan. 26. All event elements including start times, lunch, rest stops and optional speed zone will remain the same on the new date of Jan. 26. Other Tour De Cape activities, including the Pre-Event Packet Pick-Up Celebration at Cape Harbour on Friday, Jan. 18 from 5-8 p.m. and the 5K Run and Kids/Family Ride the morning of Saturday, Jan. 19, will remain on the original dates as scheduled.
“While we understand the date change of the bike tours may be an inconvenience to some of the parties involved, the safety of our participants is the highest priority for this event,” said Todd King, special events coordinator, in a prepared statement. “With advance-notice that severe weather is expected on Sunday, we felt that moving the bike tour portion of the event would be in the best interest of the participants. We hope that everyone who signed up to ride or is planning to register will still be able to participate on Saturday, Jan. 26, hopefully under much better weather conditions.”
Due to the date change, pre-registration pricing for the Tour De Cape Bicycle Tours is being extended until 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 25. Check-in and day-of registration will begin at 6:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 26. Participants can choose from 15, 30, 62 or 100-mile routes, followed by a buffet lunch at Fathoms or special menu lunch at Rumrunners.
