The Cape Coral Arts and Music Festival has announced its poster artist for 2018.

Tim Parker, owner of Art2D Gallery & Studio in Naples, was selected as this year’s poster artist with his work, Lift Off #2, depicting a great blue heron and egrets in a colorful abstract pallet of colors.

“I had heard good things about the festival, but had never done the show before,” Parker said. “To have them choose my poster is great.”

His work was selected from the competitive pool of exhibitors by the Festival committee to be displayed on the events poster, which is available to purchase for $20.

“Every year, one of joys of chairing the art festival is I get to choose the poster artist. As an artist and graphic designer I enjoy the task very much. I look for art with rich colors that stand out and jump off the page. Then I need an image that works vertically. And it needs to have enough room around the subject to place our logo in it. Then I choose colors from the image to create the surrounding matt area,” said John Jacobson, Chairman of the Cape Coral Arts &Music Festival.

“I look for work that is exceptionally well done, by someone well skilled in their medium,” he continued. “Some years it is a photograph, a painting, mixed media, sculpture, fine craft or computer generated.”

The 34th annual festival held on Cape Coral Parkway will take place Jan. 12 and 13, hosted by the Rotary Club of Cape Coral. It is Lee County’s biggest special event according to the Lee County Tourist Development Bureau, attracting more than 100,000 attendees annually.

Parker is a life-long creative mind and artistic talent, having studied at the Parsons School of Design in New York and went on to earn his master’s degree.

He worked as an illustrator, graphic designer, and creative director in the marketing, branding and advertising industry for high-end fashion, fragrance and cosmetic companies, according to information provided.

He has been in Southwest Florida for more than a decade, residing in Naples and opening his own studio to display his work.

“I’ve always heard that Southwest Florida had a very good art market,” said Parker.

His styles a mix of abstract and contemporary works, taking inspiration from mid-century artists.

“I create all kinds of pieces, a little bit of everything,” he said.

His focus can be seen as abstract figurative art, animals, abstract landscapes and non-objectives paintings.

“Tim Parker’s work is beautiful,” said Jacobson. “His work combines the abstract and the real in a compelling and engaging manner. There is always more to see. I enjoy a work you can admire close up as well as at a distance.”

His studio has been open for a decade now, he and his wife Denise operating all aspects of the business.

“In some ways, the art scene here is comparable to New York,” he said. “There is a lot of demand down here for a wide range of art. And with the internet, you can spread your work all over the world.”

Parker’s works can be found in numerous galleries and in corporate and private collections worldwide.

Parker is always evolving as an artist for personal and business reasons.

He explores all aspects of paintings, developing new techniques and molding his works to accommodate the customer.
