Matlacha to hold 33rd luminary display on Christmas Eve
On Monday, Dec. 24, the streets of Matlacha, including the downtown shops along Pine Island Road, will come aglow with the tradition of lighting 2,400 luminaries.
This Christmas Eve 33rd tradition is greeted by all neighbors, friends and visitors.
Santa’s elves (Matlacha helpers) make this tradition possible by gathering at 2 p.m. Dec. 24 at 11681 Island Ave., to fill the luminary bags with sand and candles. Please join us and bring a stool, if needed. Treats and drink will be provided.
At dusk, friends and neighbors light the luminaries and turn their radios to FM 106.3 for outdoor music, which adds to the merriment.
This Christmas Eve celebration is a vast success with the help of all that have contributed toward the purchasing of materials, making and delivering the luminaries, and especially to John and Cheryl Honc for the donation of sand. The use of the lot for the luminaries preparation is also appreciated.
Again, the original dolphins are gracing the Matlacha Bridge. CW Fudge Factory will have its dramatic “live” Nativity enactment, including music from 6-9 p.m.
