Flashback with the Foundation event Sunday

3 min read

For the first time in the charter school’s history, the Cape Coral Municipal Charter School Foundation is holding an adult only fundraiser, with the theme, Flashback with the Foundation’s 80’s event.

Flashback with the Foundation will be held from 5-10 p.m., this Sunday, Dec. 2, at the Dixie Roadhouse in downtown Cape Coral.

Foundation board member Jen-Hope Belis said the hope is to turn it into an event that will change themes every year.

“The concept is it could change every year,” she said. “This is very different for us, an adult only event. We wanted to try something else and encourage not only our families, but anyone who wants to come . . . friends, the community is welcome.”

Belis said the Cape Coral Municipal Charter School Foundation is the fundraising arm for Oasis Elementary School, Oasis Middle School, Christa McAuliffe Elementary School and Oasis High School.

“We fund-raise on behalf of those four schools and we do grant applications,” she explained, adding that teachers apply for grants within the schools for special projects.

Tickets are $40 and include a buffet dinner, one adult beverage and one raffle ticket. They can be purchased at www.CapeCharterFoundation.org, or the day of the event at the door.

“We really want it to be an affordable evening out,” Belis said, adding that the event is about giving back to the students and community.

Additional raffle tickets can be purchased for $5.

The raffles include a one-week stay in the Bahamas, dinner at Merrick’s, as well as other fun baskets.

This year the ’80s theme will feature Bad Latitudes, a fun local hairband.

“We encourage everyone to come in costume,” she said.

Belis said they are hoping people come out and support the event, listen to some fun music, have a good meal, dance and have some chances to win prizes.

“We are small, but a mighty group trying to do the best we can for our students,” she said. “We are all volunteers, many are parents at the school, and (others are) community at large members that believe in the school system. We are trying to raise money.”

The money raised during this event will go directly back into the school system through mini-grants and scholarships.

Belis said one of the mini-grants that was requested, which they currently do not have the funds for, is equipment for the high school to put on performances. The equipment includes such things as microphones and sound boards.

“That was a big request that we could not fund. That’s where it is going, through the form of grants,” she explained. “If funds came up, we would want to support audio equipment that could help feed the arts. We are trying to help the school in anyway we can.”
