‘Pumpkin patch’ returns to Faith Presbyterian Church

3 min read

Everything pumpkin will be featured at Faith Presbyterian Church this month with their annual pumpkin patch sale and Pumpkin Festival.

“The pumpkin patch is our annual fundraiser for our youth group. All the money they earn helps them go on their mission trip this summer,” Director of Christian Education Nancy Exline said, adding that the patch has been held at the church for more than 20 years.

The Pumpkin Patch is open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Oct. 7, through Oct. 31, at 4544 Coronado Parkway.

The pumpkins, which are freshly picked from a Native American field in New Mexico, come in all different sizes and are sold by their size in inches.

“It’s a way for the Indian reservation to make money. They pick straight from the fields and send it straight here,” Exline said.

The pumpkin patch is set up in a maze, which provides a fun atmosphere for the kids.

“It’s a really nice patch,” she said.

In addition, to the patch, there will also be inflatables, as well as an area with hay bales for photo opportunities.

During the evening hours, debit and credit cards will be accepted, otherwise cash and checks are the preferred method.

The Pumpkin Festival will be held from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 13, also at the church. Admission is free. Exline asks attendees to bring a canned good for their food pantry.

The festival will include free activities including carnival games, crafts and two puppet shows.

“We have our award-winning puppet team doing two puppet shows. We have gone to various puppet festivals and have won gold medals in the past,” she said.

The puppet team is comprised of 23 middle and high school students who have to participate in training to become a member of the team. Most start in sixth grade and stay on the team through high school.

“We use full-size puppets, black lights and big props. It’s a really good production to see,” she said.

The festival will include food for sale, which attendees have to purchase tickets to obtain. Attendees will also need a wrist band for the inflatables and hay rides, which are $5 per person. If the wrist bands are purchased the week before the festival at the pumpkin patch, attendees save $1.

The Cape Coral Police Department, and the Cape Coral Fire Department will also make an appearance during the festival.
