Lee’s Parks & Recreation to hold fundraiser for United Way Oct. 6

2 min read

Lee County Parks & Recreation will hold a yard sale to benefit United Way from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, at the North Fort Myers Community Park, 2000 North Recreation Park Way.

The United Way has a 2018-19 fundraising campaign goal of $10 million to benefit local charities. The Lee County Board of County Commissioners is a longtime supporter of United Way and this event is one of many Lee County Parks & Recreation initiatives aimed at helping the agency meet that goal.

Donations and fees from the sale go directly to United Way.

“Our annual United Way yard sale is a wonderful community event,” said organizer Tiffany Vance, recreation specialist with Lee County Parks and Recreation in a statement. “This event offers a safe place for residents of surrounding communities to sell their items to the public. In year’s past, there have been 30 to 40 vendors with tables full of items to rummage through and find a treasure.”

There are three ways to contribute to the yard sale, including donating items that staff at the rec center can sell. Lee County Parks & Recreation will receive donated items and sell them on the day of the event, with proceeds going to the United Way.

Donated items may be dropped off at the North Fort Myers Recreation Center any time before the day of the event.

The second way is to rent a spot and sell items you no longer want or need.

For $10, individuals may rent a parking space to sell goods. The $10 fee will go to United Way. Sellers can keep the proceeds of their sales or donate them. Stop by the Recreation Center to reserve your spot by Friday, Oct. 5.

Finally, bargain hunters can stop by and shop the yard sale from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6.

It’s not a yard sale without buyers.
