Florida SouthWestern to host Fall Open House on Oct. 9
Prospective students, their families and the community are invited to attend the Florida SouthWestern State College’s Fall 2018 Open House at the Thomas Edison (Lee) campus to learn more about the college.
The Fall Open House will be held from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, at 8099 College Parkway.
Associate Director of Recruitment Operations Ashley Crilly said the Open House helps students because it allows them to learn more about FSW by taking campus tours, as well as touring the housing facilities at the Lee campus. The students also have the opportunity to meet with faculty members that represent all of the college’s academic schools and programs.
“They are able to see literature and displays that are put on by student services, departments, or academic schools,” she said.
Crilly said they have added a FSA ID and FASFA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) Completion Lab to the event day menu. She said it’s a wonderful opportunity for prospective students and their families to learn about how to enroll at the institution.
The FSA ID is required to complete FASFA, which is the complete application for student aid.
“It is considered a signature. A signature that the Federal Government created uniquely to each student,” she explained, adding that parents also need to create a FSA ID. “It kind of adds another step because students have to obtain that to access and submit their initial FASFA.”
Every department that a prospective student has to go through to enroll at the college will be representative at the Open House. Crilly said it will include such departments as admissions, financial aid, new student orientation and student engagement.
“It takes out some of the guess work for students,” she said.
Last year’s Fall Open House attracted close to 300 students.
Those who wish to attend are encouraged to register in advance at www.FSW.edu/admissions/events.
Crilly said when students arrive at the Open House they will check-in at Building U and receive an event day menu. Crilly said they will have snow cones and balloons in the front of the building.
Each student who attends will receive a promo code to have their application fee waived, a $30 savings.
In addition, she said they will be raffling off scholarships to 10 attendees.
“After the event we will call a handful of students and have them come and pick up their scholarships,” she said, adding that they range in $20 to $200.
Building U is close to parking lot 6 and the Office of Admissions building.
Crilly encourages individuals to enter the campus through the College Parkway Entrance.
“We will have signs around the campus leading them to Parking Lot 6, which is right next to Building U,” she said.
