FHP investigating fatal hit-and-run accident
The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal hit-and-run accident that occurred Tuesday, May 8, at 10:14 p.m., on State Road 865 (San Carlos Boulevard) just south of Broadway Avenue in south Lee Country.
According to the FHP accident report, a 2003 Chevy Malibu, driven by Angel Martinez, 26, of Fort Myers, was heading north on State Road 865, when pedestrian Alfred Lebeau, 70, of Fort Myers “left the safety of the adjacent sidewalk and entered into the path of” Martinez’ vehicle. The impact caused damage to the right front of Martinez’ vehcile and broke the windshield.
Lebeau was pronounced dead at the scene.
Martinez reportedly fled the scene, continuing north on San Carlos Boulevard. The FHP reports that with the help of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, Martinez was located 3.5 miles from the accident scene.
FHP also reported that Martinez had three young children passengers in her car.
