Council to consider Cape Coral Days participation

2 min read

In addition to making a decision on three ordinance hearings seeking to amend the zoning district maps, City Council members will discuss the city auditor’s impending retirement.

Auditor Margaret Krym has informed the city that after 10 years of service she is retiring effective Feb. 28. Council will discuss the recruiting and hiring of her replacement as well as the process schedule and timeline. Krym will work alongside council and staff to make the transition go smoothly.

Councilmember Rick Williams will lead a discussion of reinstating Cape Coral Days at the state legislature in Tallahassee, including costs associated with the trip. He estimates the cost to be about $357 per person for three days and two nights, which is less than the amount paid when attending Lee County Days.

One ordinance amendment is being sought for property at 435 Del Prado Blvd. North, seeking a small scale rezoning of half of one .22-acre parcel from multi-family residential to pedestrian commercial. A single-family residence exists on the western half of the parcel that was combined into one in 2014. The applicant wants to use the entire parcel to develop a landscaping and garden supply store.

A 4.8-acre property at 1906 Skyline Blvd. seeks an amendment of zoning from commercial activity center to commercial/professional. Staff reports that the rezoning would bring the property into compliance with recently amended land use designations and likely increase the value of the property even though no development has been planned for the site at this time.

Undeveloped property located at 313 Chiquita Blvd. is seeking rezoning a quarter-acre parcel from residential development to institutional. The city recently acquired the property to develop a pump station to support the upcoming utility expansion.

All three amendment requests were recommended for approval by staff and the Hearing Examiner.

Additionally, council will act to fill two vacancies on the South Cape Community Redevelopment Advisory Board and one vacancy on the Affordable Housing Advisory Committee.

Monday’s meeting starts at 4:30 p.m. in Council Chambers at City Hall.
