CCCIA selling tickets to annual poker fundraiser
Looking to raise the stakes and go all-in on a night of fun and prizes?
The Cape Coral Construction Industry Association will host their 15th annual Hard Hat Hold’em Poker Tournament Friday, July 19, at the Backyard Beer Garden, where over $1,500 worth of cash and prizes will be up for grabs.
“The main idea behind our poker tournament and all of our other specials events, is to give our members a chance to let loose and have some fun” said CCCIA Executive Director/CEO, Bill Johnson Jr. “What better way to end a work week than to come on out play some cards and get to hang out with a bunch of your friends? This particular event has become so popular that we have opened it to the public and we have a lot of non-members play in it every year.”
The event is one of three marquee events the CCCIA puts on each year to help fund the non-profit trade association.
A seat at a table costs $85 and includes dinner and free beer and wine during the Texas Hold’em style game.
Spectator tickets will be $30. A cash bar for liquor, beer and wine will be available.
Johnson said the night is all about having fun while making connections, no matter if you’re a veteran poker player or are just picking it up for the first time.
“We have a awesome team at All Heart Poker that put this event on for us every year,” Johnson said. “They go out of there way to make sure every player is having a great time. It is also a great way for our members to interact and network in a non-business environment. I think the biggest thing people can take away from the evening is to just come on out and have a great time.”
Registration for the event begins at 5:30 p.m. on the day of the tournament for those who have not registered online. Dinner will be served at 6 with the battle for poker supremacy beginning at 7.
When the dust settles and there are no more hands left to be played, the first place winner will take home $1,000, second place receives $350 and third $150.
This will be a deep stack tournament, with players receiving $10,000 worth of chips to start.
The highest hand wins $100 after the first three blind levels.
“With having the event this year at The Backyard Beer Garden, it is the perfect spot to hang out, have some great food and enjoy the evening,” Johnson said. “Whether you are just hanging out at the event or chatting at a table during play, our members and non-members really get a chance to know one another. This has in more than one case led to new business relationships.”
The tournament has created fond memories and as Johnson said, new business relationships over the years, but no night is complete without a little amusement.
Johnson recalls one year when they had a bit of fun with the 2018 president.
“One of my members was not able to play in the tournament last year but he wanted to do something special and put a $100 bounty on our 2018 CCCIA President of the Board,” Johnson said. “We had a sign made and everyone was gunning for him all night. I will say he did do a great job of fending off the many attackers, but finally someone knocked him off and they got their $100 reward.”
Amongst the night of fun will be 50/50 raffle items along with blackjack for guests to enjoy.
The CCCIA was formed 1971 to “act as an advocate for the Construction Industry and to deal with issues within the City of Cape Coral.”
“The CCCIA works closely with the City of Cape Coral when it comes to dealing with construction related issues and finding solutions that keep the construction industry moving forward in the right direction,” Johnson said.
All players, members or non-members, can register by calling 239-772-0027 and leaving a message or email their contact information to info@cccia.org.
