Cape man arrested in stabbing death
A Cape Coral man was charged with second degree murder after his car, shorts and wallet were found at a stabbing victim’s home and a witness told police they saw him fleeing her apartment Sunday night.
Kyle Patrick Orr, 31, of 2106 S.E. 10th Terrace, was charged in connection with the death of Jessica Taylor Landor, 30, of 838 S.W. 47th Terrace.
Cape Coral Police Department officers answering a 9-1-1 call found Landor in her bedroom around 8 p.m. with “multiple stab wounds and lacerations to her body,” along with black and red rope by her feet and around the apartment. Police said they responded to an open line 9-1-1 call, where they heard “a woman screaming” and a male saying “stop.” Landor was deceased upon arrival and her injuries included a large laceration to her neck.
CCPD stated they found a key broken in in the door upon arrival.
Orr was taken into custody in the 900 block area of 47th Terrace after a witness told police he saw a man fleeing Landor’s property shirtless. The witness told police the man inflicted wounds to his arm with a knife as he fled and left a blood trail.
A “large” knife was found about a block from where Orr was arrested, though CCPD could not yet confirm if that knife was the weapon used to stab Landor.
Orr is currently at a local hospital being treated for his injuries and is expected to survive.
Police said they previously investigated an earlier act of violence reported by Landor, who called the CCPD on May 8 in reference to a possible battery by Orr.
The relationship status of the two leading up to the fatal incident in unclear, but the two were at one time involved, police said.
The May 8 call came from the 7-Eleven on Cape Coral Parkway and Skyline.
Orr was then located back at Landor’s apartment.
Kolak said that Landor told officers that she had been choked and physically bound to Orr, but managed to escape once Orr fell asleep.
“She unfortunately refused to press charges at that time. She also signed what’s call a no further action,” said Kolak.
Kolak said a detective from the Major Crimes Unit followed up with Landor that same day, due to the severity of the crimes, to make sure she did not want to press changes.
“She continued to say she did not want to press charges,” said Kolak.
The two have no documentation of ever living together and do not have children. Kolak said had they been living together, they would have arrested Orr on the May 8 battery.
“They also have never lived together. Therefore, by statute, that is not a domestic violence. The situation would have been much different on May 8 if it was a domestic violence situation due to the fact that the officers could have made an arrest even without her wanting to press charges,” said Kolak.
Orr was arrested that day on a felony drug charge of possession of marijuana over 20 grams, but was released hours later on $5,000 bail.
Kolak said the prior potential battery charge on May 8 was a dispute over an ex boyfriend of Landor’s. The issue that led to her murder is unclear.
Orr was previously arrested in February of 2014 for petty theft and in May of 2014 for grand theft and armed robbery of two 7-Eleven convenient stores.
Orr’s silver Chrysler Sebring was also found on the property, as well as a pair of shorts with a wallet containing his drivers license.
Orr will be booked at Lee County Jail following medical treatment.
Additional information will be released as the investigation continues.
