FGCU graduation ceremonies Saturday

Florida Gulf Coast University will award 1,957 degrees with 1,717 graduates expected to participate in commencement ceremonies at 9 a.m., 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. Saturday, May 4, in Alico Arena. This is the largest graduating class in the history of FGCU.

FGCU President Mike Martin will confer degrees, and the commencement address will be presented by legendary FGCU faculty members Maria Roca, chair of the Department of Integrated Studies, at 9 a.m.; Cecil Carter, professor emeritus of educational leadership, at 1 p.m.; and Edwin “Win” Everham, professor of environmental studies, at 5 p.m.

Communication is the most represented bachelor’s degree with 138 awarded. Occupational therapy will be the most awarded master’s degree with 31.

Tickets for 9,700 guests have been distributed for the three ceremonies, which also can be viewed via webcast at fgcu.edu/webcast.

Alico Arena policy prohibits balloons and loud noisemakers, and they will not be allowed indoors during the ceremonies.

FGCU has awarded more than 35,000 degrees since opening in fall 1997.
