CCPD: Women escape man holding them against their will
A Cape Coral visitor is facing false imprisonment charges after two women told police he would not let them get out of the car they had helped him pack to move.
Bryan Clinton Gibson, 34, was charged with two counts of false imprisonment, two counts of petit theft, battery, possession of a controlled substance, and four counts of possession of drug paraphernalia.
The arrest came after Cape Coral police responded the 7-Eleven at 825 Del Prado Blvd S at 9:15 Tuesday night in answer to a disturbance with a weapon call.
Officers were told the disturbance involved two women seeking help and a man believed to have a knife.
“The caller was holding the store door closed so the male could not get in and two females were also in the store stating that the male was trying to kidnap them,” a release from the CCPD issued Wednesday states.
Arriving officers spoke with Gibson and detained him for further investigation. They found a knife in his front pocket as well as LSD, officials said.
According to investigators, the women had met Gibson at a Del Prado Boulevard hotel to help him move out and into a trailer.
“After loading Gibson’s vehicle with his property, he started to drive with them north on Del Prado Blvd S.,” the release states. “Gibson was mentioning that he was concerned that they were being tracked by their cellphones and asked them to put their cellphones in the center console, which they did. When they got to about the 700 block of Del Prado Blvd S, Gibson grabbed a cigarette and opened his window. He then grabbed their cellphones and threw them out the window.”
The women “immediately asked to get out of the vehicle due to becoming afraid for their safety but Gibson refused and locked the doors.”
Gibson then pulled the car into a parking spot at the convenience store and one of the women opened a window and began to climb out. Gibson grabbed her shoulder and leg and pulled her back inside the vehicle, preventing her from exiting, police said
One woman managed to partially open the front passenger side window and was able to jump out of the vehicle after opening the door handle from the outside. She then opened the car door for the second woman. Both ran into the 7-Eleven, locked the door behind them and asked the clerk call the police.
An open air sniff on Gibson’s vehicle was conducted by a K-9 officer and dog. The dog “alerted” to the possible presence of an illegal substance inside the vehicle.
“A search of the vehicle revealed several pieces of drug paraphernalia.,” police said.
Gibson was arrested and transferred to Lee County Jail where he remained as of Wednesday afternoon.
Total bond on the various charges was set at $28,500.
The jail log states that Gibson is homeless.
