Cape man sentenced to life in prison for child sexual battery
A Cape Coral man has received two life sentences in prison for sexually assaulting a child.
Michael Wilkins, 34, was sentenced after being found guilty of two counts of sexual battery on a child less than 12 years of age.
He also was sentenced to 30 years in prison for one count of lewd or lascivious battery.
Wilkins was designated a Prison Releasee Re-offender and a Habitual Felony Offender.
The guilty verdict came following a three-day trial in Lee County in March.
“The victim reported the crime of sexual abuse in December 2017 to her daycare teacher who then reported the abuse to the Florida Department of Children and Families,” a release from the State Attorney’s Office states. “It was found that Wilkins repeatedly sexually abused the victim.”
Assistant State Attorney Heather Fly handled the case.
