A Cape Coral man has been arrested on charges of firing a weapon from a vehicle and fleeing from police following an incident Saturday, April 6.

On April 6, at around 10:08 p.m., Cape Coral Police responded to a call for service at 421 NW 17th Place in reference to a shooting.

The reporting person explained aman he knew, due to being a former coworker, Shawn Alan Roberts-Pugh, 24, of 1804 N.W. Juanita Place, Cape Coral, had been showing up to his house being a nuisance by blasting his music and doing burn outs with his truck. Police said the reporting person and Roberts-Pugh were friends until Roberts-Pugh was fired from the company they both worked for.

On the night of the shooting, the reporting person heard loud music, which caused him to go outside to the garage, police said. The resident said he saw Roberts-Pugh’s black GMC Denali truck drive by his residence and stop at the corner of Northwest 18th Avenue and Northwest 4th Terrace. The reporting person’s brother-in-law then came out with a rifle and pointed a red laser at Roberts-Pugh. Police said Roberts-Pugh then got out of the truck and pointed a green laser at the reporting person’s chest in a laser tag-type incident.

Roberts-Pugh then got back into the truck and sped off, police said, and as the truck continued northbound, he fired multiple shots from a handgun and sped away. The reporting person recorded the entire incident on his cell phone.

As Cape Coral Police were responding to the scene, a patrol officer reportedly located a GMC Denali truck matching the description provided by the reporting person. The officer turned around in an attempt to catch up to and stop the truck. Police said Roberts-Pugh increased his speed, turned off all of the truck’s lights and continued through a solid red light. A perimeter was setup, but patrol officers were unable to locate the truck at that time.

Detective Jason Hicks of the Major Crimes Unit responded and took over the investigation. During a canvass of the area of the shooting incident, two .40 caliber S&W shell casings were reportedly found along the west side of the roadway.

The GMC was located in a business parking lot at 125 S.W .3rd Place. The truck was backed into a parking spot and was unoccupied. Two more .40 caliber S&W shell casings were located on the driver’s side floorboard, police said.

Hicks gained evidence through his investigative techniques for the arrest of Roberts-Pugh. On Thursday, April 25, Hicks spoke with Roberts-Pugh over the phone and he agreed to come to the Cape Coral Police Department where he was later arrested.

Roberts-Pugh was charged with discharging a firearm from a vehicle and flee/elude with disregard of safety to persons/property and later transferred to Lee County Jail.
