Bokeelia bike rider dies after being struck by car
A Bokeelia woman was fatally injured Monday afternoon when the adult tricycle she was riding was struck by a car as she attempted to turn onto Lolly Road.
Linda Potter, 74, died at the scene of the 5:19 crash.
According to a Florida Highway Patrol report, Potter was riding north on Stringfellow Road.
John Lackey III, 71, who was driving a Kia Rio, was also northbound and approaching from behind.
Potter began to make the left onto Lolly but Lackey “failed to slowdown” causing the front of the Kia to collide with the rear of the tricycle, the report states.
Lackey then came to a “controlled stop on the west shoulder of H Stingfellow Rd. facing north.”
He was cited with careless driving, according to the report.
The FHP investigation is continuing.
