Charter School Rally fundraiser set for Sunday

3 min read

Classic cars and trucks. Kids rides. Clydesdales. Live music. Free country concert by Joe Nichols and the Ben Allen Band. Food, games, lots of prizes and more.

That’s what visitors to the fourth annual Charter School Authority Rally can expect to experience on Sunday at the Germain American Club on Pine Island Road. Fun for the entire family runs from noon to 6 p.m.

“Ride wristband sales are going well and the raffle tickets have been good, too,” said event chair Jami Dimaria. “The raffle is the big thing that raises the majority of funds for the Charter School System, and I think we have the best prizes ever.”

Unlimited ride (1-5 p.m.) wristbands at $20 are available now and at the event. Wristbands for those under 50 inches are $15.

“Our latest prize is the donation of an aerial drone,” said Dimaria. “We now have 27 prizes and the Anheuser-Busch Clydesdales will be there in full hitch for photos from 1-3 p.m.”

The grand prize is a vacation package to St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, with the second prize a four-night stay in Bimini, Bahamas. Other prizes are tickets to Disney World; group party at Woody’s Bar & Grill; six-night stay in Key West; multiple fishing charter excursions and restaurant gift cards to name just a few.

Registration for the scavenger hunt has begun and will continue until the maximum number 50 teams (up to five persons each) has been reached. Teams can sign up online at www.scavengerhuntsignup.com or at the event. There is a $5 participation fee. The hunt is conducted using smart phones to find items located at the rally grounds. One member of the winning team gets to spend 30 seconds in the Achieva Credit Union money machine.

Four-time grammy nominated country recording artist Joe Nichols is slated to perform at 5 p.m. Other performers include the Ben Allen Band, Trezz Hombres, Maranatha, Melody Lane and Shake, Rattle and Soul.

Local groups like Chimney Fish, Gulf Elementary and the Oasis Singers perform throughout the afternoon on the garden stage. Raffle prizes will be announced at 6 p.m.

Cape Coral Fire, Police and EMS response vehicles will be on display. Parents can take advantage of a free baby car seat checkup station as well.

“The rally has grown tremendously,” said Superintendent Nelson Stephenson. “This is my third one. It is a perfect illustration of what our charter system is all about. It showcases the system to the entire community. It’s also an opportunity for the public to win some nice prizes.”
