Man stuck by car while attempting to cross Cape Coral Parkway
A Cape Coral pedestrian was hospitalized Wednesday after being hit by a car.
Willie Raymond Cook, 52, of the Cape, was listed in serious condition on Thursday at Lee Memorial Hospital, where he was taken following the accident in the 500 block of Cape Coral Parkway East.
Cape police reported that Mark Dayhoff Schafe, 55, of the Cape, was driving a Lexus IS 350 westbound on Cape Coral Parkway in the inside lane. At 7:37 p.m., Cook attempted to cross the parkway’s westbound lanes on foot, traveling from the north side of the road to the south side.
The front right of the Lexus struck Cook on his left side.
Schafe told police that the roadway was very dark and that he did not see the pedestrian until he was standing in front of his passenger side headlight at impact, according to police officials.
The Lexus and Cook came to a stop in the inside lanes of the road.
Police reported that Cook was trauma-alerted to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, including a possible brain injury as he hit the windshield with his head. He also had a severely broken left leg.
Cook was wearing dark clothing at the time of the accident, the report states.
