A Cape Coral police officer who crashed into a home while off duty has been charged with DUI.

Emily Zyvoloski, 33, of Cape Coral, has been charged with DUI with BAC .15 or higher and DUI with property damage, according to a release issued by the CCPD Friday. Zyvoloski had a blood alcohol level of .253, over 3 times the legal limit, at the time of the Dec. 3 crash in the 400 block of Nicholas Parkway East, officials said.

Zyvoloski is currently employed by the Cape Coral Police Department and remains on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the case. She has been employed by the department as a police officer since 2007 and was driving a personal vehicle.

“Once the criminal case is concluded, a thorough Internal Affairs investigation will be conducted,” CCPD spokesperson Lt. Dana S. Coston said in the statement.

Zyvoloski had suffered life-threatening injuries in the crash and was trauma-alerted to a local hospital.

The impact with the garage left the home with significant structural damage.

Officials say the crash occurred around 2 a.m. after the vehicle Zyvoloski was driving took a slight right turn at the bend at the 400 block of the parkway. The vehicle failed to take the left turn at the subsequent bend, continuing straight and off the roadway to the right. The vehicle entered onto the property at 422 Nicholas Parkway East and struck the front corner of the garage. Two vehicles within the garage also suffered damage. The occupants of the home were not injured.
