The Lee County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public for help in locating a man caught in the act of robbing a North Fort Myers convenience store early this morning.

The man pointed a gun at the deputy who confronted him just outside the door at the 7 Eleven at 15991 N. Cleveland Ave. and then fled on foot after the deputy fired at him.

“At this time it is unknown if the suspect is hit,” Sheriff’s Office officials said in an early morning release.

No deputies or civilians were injured. A Code Red was initiated to alert nearby residents.

An active search is continuing for the man described as a black male, approximately 5-foot 7 inches with a heavy build.

“The public is highly encouraged to call Crime Stoppers, 1-800-780-TIPS or 911 if this subject is spotted or identified,” officials said.
