Art League’s ‘Celebration’ show set to open

2 min read

The Art League of Cape Coral will look to wrap up its golden anniversary year on a high note with an exhibition with art created by its members.

The theme of the show will be “Celebration,” and its opening reception will be held at the League’s home at 516 Cultural Park Blvd. on Thursday, Dec. 8, from 5 to 7 p.m. – right in time for holiday shoppers who would like to add art to their Christmas lists.

“It’s about celebrating the holidays, and the artwork represents the theme, so we should have a lot of holiday-inspired pictures there,” said Suzanne Sims, art league president. “There will be photos, oil and water colors, 3D, and all kinds of art.”

Nancy Terrell, an internationally known and collected artist specializing in mixed media with an emphasis on collages, will be the feature artist.

Those who recall children’s television from the 1960s and ’70s, may know Terrell as Miss Nancy on “Romper Room.”

After doing Romper Room as well as a TV interview show, Terrell spent 30 years cruising the waters with her life partner, Dave Cooper. She lived in the Caribbean, South America, Central America, Mexico and Hawaii while working as a writer covering sailing, regattas and water sports for various publications.

Terrell moved to Cape Coral last year and now belongs to the Cape Coral and Fort Myers art leagues as well as the Alliance for the Arts of Lee County.

“I was blown away when I learned what she did on ‘Romper Room’ and I knew she did a lot of traveling,” Sims said. “She’s a very interesting person. She supports us by doing our Facebook postings and does her artwork.”

Barbara Hewitt and Roger Deering will be the show chairs, with David J. Meo as the judge. There will be prizes for the top three pieces, as well as a People’s Choice Award, Sims said.

Submission to the juried show were open to CCAL members only.

Admission is free and there will be wine and finger food. Art will be available for sale, as well as items from the gift shop.

The league celebrated its 50th year in January and is open to local residents who have an interest in creating and celebrating art.
