Traffic signals, road resurfacing, get Cape council nod
Traffic signals on three major roadways in the city will be studied for timing, roadways will be resurfaced and the city auditor’s replacement is being recruited per Monday night’s City Council decisions.
Signal timing analysis will be conducted over the next year by Florida Transportation Engineering, Inc., on stretches of Santa Barbara Boulevard, Nicholas Parkway and Cape Coral Parkway. The cost of the study will be paid for by a $250,000 grant from the Florida Department of Transportation.
Traffic signals will be targeted along Santa Barbara Boulevard between Gleason Parkway and Pine Island Road; on Nicholas Parkway between Del Prado Boulevard and Santa Barbara; and Cape Coral Parkway between Del Prado and Chiquita Boulevard.
The analysis is expected to provide information to reset the timing of the lights to improve the flow of traffic.
Council approved the awarding of a contract to Pavement Maintenance LLC to resurface miscellaneous roads in the city at a cost of $464,628. The work will be completed in the next 60 days on stretches of Diplomat Parkway, Pelican Boulevard, Skyline Boulevard, Chiquita Boulevard, Polanco Grande Parkway, Gator Circle, Nicholas Parkway and SE 8th Place.
The contract is part of the city’s ongoing $6.5 million road resurfacing initiative.
Council also approved awarding a $1.1 million contract to Florida Design Contractors, Inc., of Lake Park to provide all piping, equipment and labor to install above ground service material to connect the new deep injection well at the Southwest Reverse Osmosis Plant. The funds will come from the water and sewer fund.
Council approved recruiting consultant The Mercer Group’s plan to advertise for candidates to replace city auditor Margaret Krym, who is retiring in February. Advertising for candidates is expected to run through Jan. 6 with a list of semifinalists delivered to the city on or about Jan. 11 for consideration. Candidates then will be introduced to council at a special meeting in early February.
The next regular meeting for council is next Monday in Council Chambers at City Hall.
