A motorcyclist has died from his injuries following a recent accident in Cape Coral.

As of Tuesday, David B. Adair, 58, of North Fort Myers, had passed award at Lee Memorial Hospital, where he was transported on Oct. 20 after the crash on Hancock Bridge Parkway, officials reported.

According to police, Adair was driving a Harley-Davidson Sportster east on Hancock and approaching the intersection at Southeast First Place. At 10:58 p.m., the motorcycle drifted toward the left and struck the inside median curb. The impact caused Adair to lose control of the motorcycle.

The motorcycle traveled southeast across the eastbound lanes, where Adair was ejected.

He and the motorcycle came to rest on the outside shoulder of the roadway.

Police reported that Adair sustained multiple life-threatening injuries to his head and neck in the accident. Lee County EMS and Cape fire crews responded and he was trauma-alerted to the hospital.

Adair was not wearing a motorcycle helmet approved by the Florida Department of Transportation, according to police officials. At the time, he was wearing what is called a “half-shell helmet.”

The crash was reportedly alcohol or drug related.
