Registration opens for Veterans Day Parade
With just months away, Cape Coral’s Veterans Day Parade has opened up registration for participants.
Veterans, floats, bands and other participants can sign up.
“We always get the usual participants, all the different war vets, clubs, and the Shriners, and Girl Scouts, and Boy Scouts and high school bands,” Lindi Biondi, parade coordinator, said.
They do get plenty of help from ROTC.
“It’s amazing,” Biondi said. “We have 1,000 kids from the ROTC.”
The parade will be from 11 a.m. to 2p.m. on Friday, Nov. 11. The parade will go eastbound from Southeast 8th Court to 15th Avenue on Southeast 47th Terrace in the South Cape.
There will be a reviewing area where participants are announced and can do a small presentation. The reviewing stand is at the entrance to Club Square at Southeast 10th.
“We had a rifle group last year that actually did the presentation of the rifles,” Biondi said.
The theme of this year’s parade will be a commemoration of the 75th Anniversary of Pearl Harbor.
The grand marshal for 2016 will be 92-year-old Air Force veteran Col. John LeRae, who has served in WWII, Korea and Vietnam.
“Pretty amazing,” Biondi said. “He was quite the gentleman.”
Organizers are expecting around 5,000 spectators.
Restaurants and shops on the parade path will be offering Veterans Day specials to the spectators.
Patrick Nolan and Amy Wegmann from FOX 4 will be the usual MCs of the Veterans Day Parade.
