Sliding into summer: Sun Splash Family Waterpark celebrates dads this weekend

3 min read

Spend time with dad this weekend without breaking the bank at Sun Splash Family Waterpark.

In celebration of Father’s Day, the park is offering free admission to fathers with the purchase of a regular-priced child or teen general admission ticket. The offer is available throughout the weekend.

“Dads get in free on Saturday or Sunday,” Michelle Dean, spokeswoman for the city’s Parks and Recreation Department, said.

She added that the offer extends to grandfathers, great-grandfathers and such, as well.

“As long as a child or teen ticket is purchased,” Dean said.

General admission tickets for children ages 2-12 cost $14.95 for Cape Coral residents and $17.95 for non-residents. Tickets for ages 13 and older cost $16.95 for residents and $19.95 for non-residents.

Over the weekend, fathers will also have a chance to win more than $1,200 in raffle prizes.

“Typically, we have a register-to-win table set up,” she said.

Some of the prizes include a $250 gift card to the Nike Factory Store at the Sanibel Outlets, $150 gift card to Bubba’s Roadhouse & Saloon, free rounds of golf at the Coral Oaks Golf Course and more.

The grand prize is a three-day, two-night stay at the Port of the Islands in Naples.

The drawings will be held at the end of the day on Sunday.

“It’s just a really great opportunity for families to spend time together,” Dean said.

All of the attractions at the park will be open to the public, with the exception of the Tot Spot. It is being transformed into the new Pirate’s Cove, which will have 41 interactive play features.

“It gives families a more affordable way to participate,” she added of the weekend.

Officials are hoping for a large crowd on both days.

“Weather’s always a big factor,” Dean said.

Last year, the Father’s Day weekend offer brought in 1,310 visitors on Saturday and 1,599 visitors on Sunday. Officials called the results a “great attendance,” as the park’s full capacity is 1,650 people.

On June 11, Sun Splash Family Waterpark kicked into its summer schedule. It is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weather permitting until Aug. 9, when it returns to weekends only through Sept. 25.

The park has replaced its Family Fun Nights and Aqua Theatre Nights with Slide Nights.

“It’s kind of restructured,” she said.

From now through Aug. 6, the park will host a Slide Night from 5 to 9 p.m. each weekend on either Friday or Saturday. Each week, the Slide Nights will alternative between Friday and Saturday.

“This way, there’s something going on every weekend,” Dean said.

“People can plan for it,” she added.

Slide Night admissions range from $10.95 to $14.95, depending on age and city of residence.

“It’s a discounted rate for someone just to come in for the Slide Night,” Dean said.

Those visiting the park during the day will not be charged for Slide Nights.

“They do not need to pay extra for the evening hours,” she said.

A Slide Night was held in April and May, before the consecutive weekends kicked off June 11.

“This year’s initial Slide Nights have been kind of slow so far, but we’re still working on building awareness about the new operating schedule,” Dean said.
