Ladies Tea to benefit Oma’s Heart Christmas gift program
There are only a limited number of tickets left for an annual fundraiser to benefit Oma’s Heart.
The Oma’s Heart 5th Annual Ladies Tea will take place on June 25 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Cape Caberet, 4725 Vincennes Blvd. The event raises funds for Oma’s Heart, a faith-based organization that offers local parents in need the opportunity to provide Christmas gifts to their children – for free.
Families that may be eligible are identified through the schools, social workers and such.
“We open a store for two days in December where families that are struggling financially can come shop at no cost,” Audrey McFalls, founder and executive director of Oma’s Heart, said Tuesday.
Parents shop in the store, while the children play and make crafts in Santa’s workshop. When parents are done shopping, they are provided free supplies to wrap their gifts, which they then take home.
Last year, Oma’s Heart helped more than 600 families and over 2,000 children.
As of Tuesday, there were approximately 50 adult tickets left for the annual Ladies Tea.
“If we could sell 50 more that’d be great,” she said.
Tickets cost $25 and include lunch, which consists of a pasta bar, salad, rolls, desserts and drinks.
Along with guest speakers, there will be a fashion show.
Clothes Mentor will provide the clothing and accessories, along with You Look Mahvalous.
“They put together the whole ensemble,” McFalls said.
“Their volunteers are actually the (fashion show) models,” she added.
Attendees will get to take part in raffles for various items, including gift certificates for local restaurants and business, theme park passes, household items and decor, and more.
“We have well over 30 different raffle items,” McFalls said.
For the fundraiser, Oma’s Heart volunteers decorated the event tables with different themes. Attendees will get to vote for their favorites, and “golden teacups” will be presented to the top three winners.
Last year, the event raised more than $2,500 for Oma’s Heart.
“The funds that we receive are from Lee County and stay in Lee County,” she said.
“One hundred percent of the proceeds go to these families,” McFalls added.
