Lee County Community Band in concert Jan. 11
The Lee County Community Band will kick off the New Year Jan. 11 with a 3 p.m. concert of toe-tapping, spirited music to please every taste. The performance will feature the brass section in “Trumpets, Ol!” and the “Liechtensteiner Polka;” plus a Dixieland combo, selections from the Broadway hit “Oliver!” and the famous “Light Cavalry Overture.”
The concert will take place at Cape Coral High School, 2300 Santa Barbara Blvd. An institution in Southwest Florida, the band enjoys a large and loyal audience; please arrive a little early for best choice of seating.
Additional Lee County Band concerts are set for Feb. 8, March 8 and April 12. The events are free (donations accepted) and open to the public; all will be at 3 p.m. at Cape Coral High School. The director is Richard Bradstreet; emcee and vocalist is Normal Jones.
The 55-member band rehearses Thursdays from 7-9 p.m. at St. Michael Lutheran School, Fort Myers. Members are musicians from all walks of life – career musicians, amateurs, and folks renewing skills from years past – who reside in Lee, Collier, and Charlotte counties. The band welcomes new members every year.
