Holiday House event this weekend on Pine Island
After Santa arrives for Family Night Thursday, Dec. 4, author Tonya Player will present story time at the annual, three-night, Beacon of H.O.P.E. Holiday House celebration.
Player sets up a tent with lights, decorations and dresses in true holiday style and children listen to festive holiday stories to the kids!
Friday evening, author Robert Macomber will offer up Civil War history. Macomber is an award-winning and internationally recognized author, lecturer and TV commentator. He is best known for his novels in the Honor Series and his lectures around the world.
Saturday, author John Mills will discuss his novels. His first novel, “Reasonable and Necessary,” was published in 2000. His second novel, “The Manatee Murders,” was published in 2002.
Mills is a fifth generation native of Fort Myers. He grew up fishing the waters of Pine Island Sound and it is still his favorite hobby.
The Holiday House of H.O.P.E. will have rooms set up during the three-hour event each night at the Tarpon Lodge. Those rooms included artwork from Mel Meo; CW Fudge Factory will present some new seasonal flavors,
Betsy Haesemeyer, executive director of the Beacon of H.O.P.E., said they like to take advantage of as many opportunities as they can to educate and bring awareness to others about what they do, which is one reason why they decided to hold the annual event.
Beacon of H.O.P.E. board members will be on site to explain the many services offered by the Beacon to island residents.
“Tis the season of giving and we are hoping that everyone comes with an open heart and their checkbook,” Stearns said. “The monies raised stay here on the island to support our community. We are in some of the worst economic times that some of us will ever see. It is a wonderful and important cause. The partnership with Tarpon Lodge and the Wells family has been a blessing.”
