Charlie Imes to appear at Bert’s Bar Dec. 28
San Diego-based singer/songwriter Charlie Imes, who is known for his laid-back vibe and beachy musical style, incorporating elements of folk, pop, jazz, rock and just about any other musical genre that suits the songs, will appear at Bert’s Bar Sunday, Dec. 28, at 3 p.m.
The youngest of six children, Imes grew up in the south bay of Los Angeles but has called San Diego home since 1984, according to his profile.
“I’ve been writing and performing for almost 30 years, but didn’t release an album until 2008,” he said. “In the summer of 2007 I went into Miracle Studios in San Diego to work on my first album, ‘On An Island,’ which was co-produced with SDMA winning artist and producer Jeff Berkley.”
The album garnered a nomination for Best Americana or Country Album at the 2009 San Diego Music Awards.
Imes music roots date back to James Taylor, Jimmy Buffett, Nat “King” Cole, Earl Klugh, the Beatles, Steely Dan, Joni Mitchell, the Eagles, Tommy Bolin and the Rippingtons.
Imes describes him music as laid-back, jazzy, beach folk-rock.
“The result is as comfortable as your favorite T-shirt &and shorts,” Imes said.
His latest album release is “Summer’s Here.”
“Summertime is more than a season,” Imes said. “It’s a state of mind. A time to enjoy warm, sunny days spent with friends playing music. At least that’s what I was doing. This project (‘Summer’s Here’) was inspired by my years of playing music and developing my particular style on the beaches of So Cal. I played with some amazing musicians over the years, and I wanted to capture and share some of the magic that I got to experience. So I hope you enjoy ‘Summer’s Here.’ Welcome to my beach. There’s beer in the cooler.”
Bert’s Bar & Seafood Grill is at 4271 Pine Island Road in Matlacha.
