Sun Splash specials!
Sun Splash Family Waterpark visitors can enjoy discounted admissions this weekend and next.
The final two weekends of the 2014 season will take place Saturday and Sunday and Sept. 13-14. The park is offering a special admission price of $10 per person, plus tax, with no coupon required.
The last day is Sept. 14, with the facility set to reopen in March for the 2015 season.
“We found that it’s a great way to thank the community for a wonderful season and a great way to go into the off season,” Michelle Dean, of the Cape Coral Parks and Recreation Department, said.
She noted that the park has offered discounted admissions in the past, typically after Labor Day. With school back in session and fall sports starting up, the special prices give an incentive to stop by.
“It’s a lot more difficult for people to commit to coming,” Dean said of the season’s end.
The $10 admission applies to Cape residents and non-residents, adults and children. For example, the regular admission for an adult non-resident is $17.95 – plus tax – or $14.95 for an adult resident.
“So, it’s a 50 percent savings,” she said. “It varies.”
The park will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both Saturdays and Sundays.
“We recommend that people come early in the day,” Dean said.
The park’s capacity is limited to 1,650 people.
“There will not be refunds or rain checks given,” she said.
The normal daily parking fees will apply.
Due to a limited number of chairs at the park, visitors are welcome to bring seating.
“We can’t take rafts or things like that, but people are allowed to bring their own chair,” Dean said.
Also during the last two weekends, the Treasure Trove Gift Shop is offering 20 percent off on all merchandise in the store. Locker rentals are through the shop, but they are exempt from the discount.
Park officials are expecting a good turnout for the final two weekends.
“We always like to finish the season with a bang and certainly weather plays a factor,” she said. “But if the past is any indication, we’ve had large crowds in the past.”
Over the past season, the park has had success with its Aqua Theatre Nights, Family Fun Nights and special promotions. SpongeBob SquarePants visited, as well as the cast of “The Little Mermaid” from the Broadway Palm Children’s Theatre. New mascots for the park, Coral and Reef, were also named.
Dean added that the park once again maintained its five-star rating from the Starfish Aquatics Institute this season. The rating is based on the aquatic safety and lifeguard performance at a facility.
“It’s really quite an accomplishment for the staff,” she said.
Dean called the 2014 season a success.
“We did have a better season than last year. Again, weather always plays a factor,” she said.
While routine upkeep is planned during the off season, any major changes have not been decided.
“It hasn’t been determined if any new attractions will be added,” Dean said. “It depends on city budgets and that sort of thing.”
Park staff, however, will review surveys taken by season passholders and other visitors.
“We’ll also look and see what changes there might be in the industry,” she said.
