Search continues for robbery suspects
Cape Coral police were still searching Tuesday for two men who robbed a Perkins restaurant.
At about 3:30 a.m. Saturday, officers responded to a burglary alarm at 1551 S. Del Prado Blvd. The robbers entered the Perkins using an unlocked rear door minutes after the restaurant had closed.
According to a police report, an employee was working in the kitchen when one of the robbers approached him and pointed a gun at him. The man was led to the front of the restaurant, where two other employees were detained. Officials reported that the first suspect carried a silver revolver.
The robbers placed two of the employees in the back kitchen refrigerator, then the armed suspect escorted the third employee to the safe in the office. After stealing money from the safe, the robbers emptied out three cash register drawers, officials reported. The total amount stolen was not listed.
The unarmed robber reportedly told his partner not to hurt the employee taken to the office.
The suspects then shoved the third employee into the refrigerator with the other two and closed the door. Inside the fridge, the victims pulled the silent alarm and waited a few minutes before checking to see if the robbers were gone. The victims believed that the suspects left through the same rear door.
No injuries were reported, according to officials.
The robbers were each described as black, about 5 feet 10 inches tall and approximately 170 pounds, with their faces covered. The man with the gun was wearing a long-sleeved black shirt and jeans, while the other man had on a long-sleeved white shirt, jeans and socks on his hands secured with duct tape.
Officials noted that the armed robber was taller and possibly had long dreadlocks.
Both men were described as having a medium build.
The victims stated that they were outside of the restaurant at about 3 a.m. and did not notice any vehicles or people in the parking lot, the report states. There were no signs of forced entry.
The rear door was accidentally left unlocked by the employees.
