A dead Fort Myers man is listed as a suspect in the death of his 4-year-old daughter.

John Ernest Medina, 34, whose body was found Monday in the Caloosahatchee, is identified as a suspect in the death of Sophie Medina, according to a report from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office. The two resided together at 15400 Sonoma Drive, Apt. 302, where deputies discovered Sophie’s body.

On Monday morning, deputies were dispatched to the Cape Coral Bridge for a disabled Nissan Sentra blocking the roadway with its hazard lights flashing. The car’s owner, Medina, could not be located.

A check of Medina’s home address revealed the body of the child, later identified as Sophie. At approximately 7:20 a.m., deputies initiated a death investigation and the scene was secured.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office reported that a further investigation Monday revealed a body in the Caloosahatchee. The LCSO’s dive team recovered the body, which was identified as Medina.

A third person, Kimberly Nichole Boklage, is listed in the report as a family member.

She could not be reached for comment Tuesday.

Sophie was attending the Princeton Academy Preschool in Fort Myers.

“She was a student,” Janis Wolfson, the school’s director, said. “It was her second year.”

She added that the tragedy has impacted the school.

“I think all of us are devastated. It’s been a very, very hard day,” Wolfson said.

“We just want to send our love and prayers to the family,” she added.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate.
