Bus driver injured in accident released from hospital
A Cape Coral bus driver has been released from the hospital following a fatal accident on U.S. 41.
As of Tuesday, Victoria G. Strickland, 54, had been discharged from Lee Memorial Hospital, where she was taken last week following the crash on 41, just north of Fork Road, according to officials.
At 1:53 p.m. Thursday, a school bus carrying 32 high school students was stopped in the southbound outside lane when a Toyota Highland approached from behind. The driver of the Toyota, Robert H. Frost, 68, of Fort Myers, reportedly failed to stop for the school bus and crashed headfirst into its rear.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the impact forced the school bus slightly forward, and it struck a scooter rack attached to the back of a Chevrolet Equinox that was stopped in front of it.
Frost was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The FHP reported that eight of the students were taken to the hospital for minor injuries.
As of Tuesday, the hospital conditions of the eight children were unknown.
Strickland also sustained minor injuries and was transported to the hospital for treatment.
The driver and sole passenger in the Chevrolet reported no injuries.
The accident is not alcohol related, according to the FHP.
