Circus, crafts fair to come to Lee Civic Center

3 min read

Here’s something that should take some of the Back-to-School blahs away from the kids – a circus at the Lee Civic Center.

The event leads off a busy week at the facility.

The Loomis Bros. Circus, which travels nationwide, will be at the Civic Center today and Thursday with two shows each day at 5 and 8 p.m.

The show will feature some of the world’s finest circus stars, including a wide array of acrobats, clowns, aerialists and thrill acts, officials said.

Of course, the Loomis Bros. Circus, which is appearing here for the first time, also will bring its world-famous elephants and Royal Bengal and White Siberian tigers.

“People are going to have more fun than they ever expected to have,” said manager and performer Eric Scott. “You’re going to be close to all the action.”

The fun starts when the gates open, with a pre-show party where you’ll never know what to expect. Scott, a clown by trade, will get all fans fired up and ready for all the fun.

Other features will include traditional circus concessions like cotton candy, face painting, pony rides and a giant air slide. These activities also will be available during intermission, as well as the opportunity to ride a real circus elephant.

“We are a family oriented show, although the show has something for everyone,” said ringmaster Justin Loomis, whose family has worked in the industry for more than a century and who has run this circus since it opened in 1997. “When you come to the circus, you’re going to see it as your grandparents saw it.”

The circus visits more than 100 cities and attracts about a quarter-million fans annually, Loomis said.

Tickets will be available at the on-site box office on the day of show only, and opens approximately one hour prior to showtime. Prices are $20 for adults, $8 for children 3 to 12, and free for children 2 and under.

Loomis Bros. suggests potential spectators purchase their tickets online at www.loomiscircus.com in advance to avoid long lines on the day of show.

You can get a discount online through Facebook. The online discount code for $5 off is CLOWN.

All seating is general admission, so come early for best seating. Doors open approximately 45 minutes prior to showtime.

Aficionados of crafts will come to the Lee Civic Center on Saturday and Sunday for one of the largest indoor crafts fair around.

Buckler’s Crafts Fairs will once again come to town to sell and exhibit crafts and artwork from some of the most talented craftspeople around.

There’s sure to be something for the whole family, as the fair will feature handmade creations, including clothing, home decor, unique gifts, gourmet delights such as fudge, and much more.

Admission is $6 per person, with one pair admission good for both days with a handstamp. Kids 12 and under are free.
